Truly Helpful New Year’s Resolution Advice (Probably)

New Year’s resolutions have a reputation for being difficult and short-lived, but I’ve always believed that depends entirely on the kinds of resolutions you choose to make. With a few small adjustments and the following suggestions, you could very well be on your way to something like success in 2026.

Pick a resolution that would look good embroidered on a pillow.

Make your resolution about gratitude, but only toward yourself.

Make your resolution extremely vague, like “be best”, so it can’t technically fail.

If your resolution is about self-improvement, improve your opinion of yourself instead.

Resolve to be more social, but mostly with people you already know won’t show up to your dinner parties.

Resolve to finally commit to something, but preferably do not commit to anything “legally”.

Join a gym and keep the membership active as a reminder of your potential.

Promise yourself you’ll read more, starting with menus and instruction manuals.

Pick a resolution that depends entirely on other people changing first.

Resolve to be more authentic, assuming that this newfound authenticity tests well with your Instagram followers.

Make a resolution to save money, then reward yourself for this decision by spending some.

Make a resolution to finish what you start, beginning next year.
