Welcome to the GOP Haunted House (and Senate)
Come inside to see what’s haunting the GOP this midterm election season. Follow the eerie whistle of your plunging poll numbers — it’s going to be a bloodbath!
As you enter the foyer, the coat check is on your right. Watch your constituents go up to collect the checks they’ve been promised. But wait, the checks are coated with ectoplasm from the ghosts of Trump’s dead promises – DOGE checks, tariff dividend checks, Republican victory checks, all slipping right out of their hands. Run, before the disgruntled mob turns to you for answers!
Search for a safe place to hide – pay no attention to the agonized screams. Whew, a peaceful room with a desk and a chair. But oh no! Just as you start to sit down to collect yourself, a Democrat emerges from the shadows. “You weren’t the only one running for this office! You can’t hide now!” Gah! Get out, this seat is not safe after all!
Turn the corner to enter a hallway where a phone is ringing – who’s that? Thank goodness, it’s Karl Rove. Maybe he can strategize a narrow path out of here! But no, he’s calling to tell you he’s voting for a Democrat for only the second time in his life. The call is coming from inside the house!!
Quick, hang up and retreat further down that hall. Okay, this is reassuring – the voice of Nevada GOP Congressional Candidate Marty O’Donnell warning of an unholy alliance between the LGBTQs and the Islamists if the Democrats win. Take a left turn as he says they’re all just pretending to be oppressed. Is that another room you could hide in? No – watch out! That’s the Marxist Abyss! Over that precipice, your personal freedom to experience medical debt, unaffordable childcare, and hazardous work environments will simply fade away. But why does everyone look so happy in there?!
Next, climb up into the attic. It’s full of bats, but they seem harmless other than the stink. And phew, fellow Republican Brandon Herrera is here from Texas’s 23rd Congressional District! But ew, you’re forced to take cover as Herrera whips out one of his AKs and blasts a ham. “Using a ham for practice is expensive,” he says, “but it still costs less than a homeless person.” Oh no, as he’s splintering the roof, he’s spreading batshit everywhere. This is crazy, now you’re totally covered in it!
Dash downstairs to escape through the back of the house and find a strange figure blocking the way. It’s hard to make out that hulking shape at first– what’s the deal with this back door, it’s so shady? Oh, it’s Susan Collins, stashing bags of cash under her pashmina. The dark money is going to grow and grow! Turn a blind eye, do not investigate further!
Are you really going into the basement? That seems like a terrible idea, but it’s hard not to get sucked down lower and lower. When you get there, do NOT open that casket in the corner, that’s where Mitch McConnell sleeps. Or stays awake. It’s hard to tell. Contemplate lugging him up to the foyer for safety in numbers, but don’t do it – then you’d have to defend him too!
Run upstairs! The front door is just ahead, hurry! But wait, before you can reach the threshold, a sea of floating faces materializes. Are those…the thousands of active duty service members serving in the Middle East? No, that can’t be real, Trump said he would end – not start – wars. They must just be ghosts.
“No, these are real people!” voices of their families shout. “You can’t pretend this war isn’t happening!” Shout back, “You mean the targeted military operation?” as you shimmy past them and try to believe it.
As you run out across the lawn, look back and realize it’s too late for you, everything GOP officials and candidates have said and done have come back to haunt you, and now the House (and Senate) are about to be overtaken by Democrats!
Jump in the car and peel out. Woohoo – there’s no one on the road because gas prices are so high! But watch out! The road is covered in rotting crops farmers couldn’t sell this year due to tariffs. Shout “trust the process!” out the window and floor it before the farmers come after you with pitchforks. Keep driving until you see a beacon, brilliant rays of shiny blonde hair and unnaturally white teeth, in the distance. If you’re lucky, you’ll have just enough left in the tank to find safe harbor at Fox News.
